Role-playing is the main focus of playing on Realms of Aurealis.
Role-playing is when you react to other players as your character instead of as the person typing behind the monitor. In other words, if you are an ale'unan magi from Sylvandell, and you meet a s'ale'un from Yarrowshire, you would react to this half-breed in front of you as an ale'un who was raised from a babe in an all-ale'unan community, and most likely sneer at one who was not fortunate enough to have been born a full-blooded ale'un.
You can, however, define your RP persona however you like, within the following guidelines established to govern RP for Realms or Aurealis. They are:
- You may not role-play anything that is not possible within the code itself. In other words, you may not Rp an undead creature, since there is no code to allow PC's to become undead, you may not Rp that you are secretly a dragon in disguise, since there is no code to allow players to pick dragon as a race, etc.
- You may not force Rp on someone. Remember, role-playing is interactive fiction that two or more players contribute to at once. If one player is doing all the steering of an Rp session, this is not "interactive" since only one person is calling all the shots.
- If you kill someone via the RP/PK, that character is officially dead.
- If you Rp someone's death, that character may not play AR:TTA any longer. When a character dies through Rp, that is ultimate death, and they are officially dead. And remember: Everyone has friends. Wantonly slaying someone will undoubtably result in their friends ganging up to revenge their death, so think long and hard before you kill someone. Make sure you read info pk for details on AR:TTA's player-vs-player system.
If you have any questions about these policies, ask a Sage or send your question in e-mail to staff@aurealanrealms.org.
