Norway's history is long and involved. Break open the salsa and chips, grab a Snapple, and sit back ...
Intrinsic Swiftwind:
A pixie born of the Swiftwind tribe in Allaria, Intrinsic always had a strong connection to the magics of the lands. He had a pure heart as well, always giving of himself. After about 17 years of life, he decided not to become a member of the DragonWatch, though it was tradition for Swiftwind pixies to join the Watch and had been for over one thousand years. Instead, he left his LifeTree, the Great Rosewood, to live in the LifeTree of the Winterthaw pixies, a tribe known for its powerful clerics. There, he learned to control the magics within his body and within the lands and became a magician of praise and note and power.
He left.
Travelling in a small boat of his own making across the great ocean which separates the twin continents of the Realms, for, at this time, Aria was nothing more than a small town, and the great ships which now commonly travel between it and Nirenoft and other ports did not exist, he came upon Mesraht, a Mesraht not very much like today's. From this town, he went on his own, striking out for adventure, for knowledge, for kicks.
Along his journeys, he came across the drakyn city high above the Realms, now easily found but then much of a mystery, and learned that two sons of one of the cities great dragons (not drakyns, mind you) had gone missing for quite a time. Their father charged Trin with the finding of them. Well, find them he did, Gjeck and Tarish Kjeldoran, and returned them to their father. In
reward for this service, for they were princes of the city at the time, though the Kjeldoran family has since moved into the background, their father granted Trin one wish. His wish, for he and the juvenile dragons had since become good companions, was for them to accompany him on his journeys. It was, of course granted, and they became great dragon warriors. Their younger brother, Ranjir, a mage of little note, and their sister, Sinjen, a fighter herself, accompanied them from time to time.
The Duchy of Norway:
One week, they came across Alanholt Keep. They spoke with Duke Perkins, for the Duke had heard of Intrinsic, as Trin had since become quite a powerful cleric, and learned something very powerful and quite meaningful to the pixie.
All children of Allaria know very well the tale of the pixie enslavement by the drow of centuries apast, and of their escape through an underground river, how they eventually came shooting up through the whirlpool in the midst of Lake P'Hellias. Intrinsic learned that day, in Alanholt Keep, centre of power for the small Duchy of Norway, that the freshwater well in the Keep's centre drew directly from that same underground river. Coming in contact with such a powerful part of the pixie history was a deeply meaningful thing to the young cleric. He never forgot that place nor that Duke, nor that day.
Cyng Swiftwind
One day, about a year afterwards, when Intrinsic had since returned, without the dragons, to Allaria, two powerful beings came to him in his sleep. He had long since discovered something powerful about himself ... these two gave him certainty. Intrinsic Swiftwind was one of the many incarnations of an EverSoul first known to the Realms as Cyinge, second pixie ever to live. They told him that his time had come to transcend the mortal form and to come back to life as Cyng Swiftwind. He felt a power upon his head, lifting him into the night sky, to sail amongst the stars. When he returned, he was much changed. He had become Cyng Swiftwind, a being come to life out of pixie legends.
But he still remembered that day. In honour of that day and the knowledge which the Duke had given to him, he created a clan. The clan had no strong purpose. It had no rites, no restrictions. It in fact had little meaning other than to keepthe knowledge of that underground river, that body of water, that salvation of pixiefolk alive in the minds and hearts of the peoples of the Realms.
It thrived, achieving popularity and success nearly unequaled in the Realms. However, after a time, it entered a period of darkness. It died completely eventually.
The false Norway:
Cyng despaired. He missed the friends he had made who had since passed on. But he knew that the clan was dead. A few of the remaining members did not. Two of them joined together and formed their own version of the clan. Cyng learned of this and was outraged. On that day, those two people died in his eyes, and he refused to acknowledge the existance of this new upstart clan with the blasphemous name. Norway was about his people, about their salvation. This was a deep insult.
EverSoul:
The new clan floundered. Cyng threw himself into a new brotherhood to keep his mind from such things. He made public his existance as an EverSoul, a being with an eternal soul who lived in many bodies throughout the centuries with total recall of his past lives. But none came to him and shared their stories. None came and joined him. To this day, he wonders if he is the only one of his kind.
The Jester's Tears:
He gave that venture up, and his world darkened further. He longed for a brotherhood like Norway, like the old friends. But he really did not care much. He created a clan called The Jester's Tears, which did attract a few members, but Cyng's despair was
such that he cared not, and the clan was empty.
Norway:
One day, recently, as he lay in bed, talking with his wife Sandy, he suddenly was filled with an emotion which he could not put name to. He sat up, alive with energy. Sandy asked him what had come upon him, and he uttered one word: Norway.
He knew that there would never be anything like that first clan, nothing to compare ever again in the Realms. But he could create something just as good, just as worthwhile. He opened himself for others to join him, hoping that he would not be disappointed once more.
He turned to the task of re-exploring his homeland, Allaria, making sure that it was safe to be finally opened to the rest of the Realms, to breaking its thousand years of closed borders. As he set to this task with a passion, others flocked to his side. He shared the stories of his people, shared the tale of their escape from the drow, shared of the undergraound river flowing beneath the Duchy of Norway, beneath the great ocean, and beneath Allaria and Lake P'Hellias.
The new clan called Norway has been growing ever since. Cyng is well pleased.
