Mouseglove's SORP

(State of Role-Playing)

This my last writing as "Mouseglove", for he is no more as of the time you read this, but we'll get to that. I want to talk about RP in general, what we (the Immstaff) intend for RP in the future, and then I'll explain, in laymans terms, the whole Mouseglove/Zhalith deal.

In the last few months, we've seen an upsurge in RP in the realms. We've been handing out more RP awards than ever, people have been sending in logs to Faywhen & Aiela and getting experience for it, and overall, we've become more RP healthy than I've seen in a long, long time. People have, for the most part, really gotten into the swing of things, and have enjoyed themselves (I think), and that makes me happy. We've started requiring people to have character descriptions that make sense in our world-terms, we've instituted a rule that, if you've got the (RP) flag visible, your title needs to be RP too. We've started making subtle changes to the way the mud spews out messages to the players about things (pay close attention to Auction and you'll see what I mean). Why?

We've tossed around the idea of going "All-RP", and while that's still being considered, the possibility of doing that is waning. Instead, we're trying to make a world where everything in it makes SENSE in the Role-Playing perspective, so that if people WANT to Role-Play, they will find a world, an entire environment, that is conducive to that purpose. They won't find anything glaringly OOC to hinder their RP, nor will they find people who have descriptions that say "I'm superman!" or "I'm a big 30-foot robot with lasers", etc.

Now, before you start thinking anything... this does not mean that you can't come on and just run around, kill things, stock up eq and money, etc. anymore. We're not requiring anyone to Role-Play. We are, however, requiring that you "LOOK" the part to those who do. It's like a big renaisance festival: Even if all you're doing is selling turkey legs, you still have to look like you belong in that type of world. :)

Ok, the whole Mouseglove/Zhalith thing. If you want to find out exactly what happened to Mouseglove, Zhalith & Benadanti RP-wise, check the IC section, this is the OOC version. ;) To clear up any rumors or whatever, yes, I was all three: Mouseglove, Benadanti and Zhalith. Originally, Mouseglove was supposed to dive into the last Globe of Aurealis to protect it from Zhalith, and I would have, again, one "Evil" immortal to RP with and one "Not-Evil" immortal to RP with. Zhalith was created back when Vall still ran the mud as Realms of Aurealis, when we needed an evil god and had none. He was created solely as an RP construct, and served his purpose well. Benadanti was created to "replace" Mouseglove as leader of the Palladium, and be the mailing address for Clan-related info, just to help seperate that from the head Admin position. Things changed, however, and a major upset in the Jheherrin clan caused me to rethink the ending of the whole thing, and now, of course, in their place is Zaulh'Ghev.

Many of you knew who Zhalith really was (and to those of you who actually didn't tell anyone, you have my sincere thanks), and many didn't. To those who didn't, don't feel bad. I worked my butt off to keep them seperate... I created a different typing style, and really a different personality for Zhalith, even OOC-ly. It was a great "role" to play, probably my best acting gig ever <grin> and I enjoyed it, but times change, and the needs of the realm change. Once again, we have no "evil" god, but now you have three deities in the upper echelons of the "heavens" who are clinically insane. I feel this should provide more than enough RP fuel to keep us going for a while. Besides, now that the conversion's over, we'll be opening up building applications again, and who knows... perhaps a new god of evil will emerge. We'll see.

So, we're now entering the third era of the world of Aurealis. The historians are already calling this era the "Time of Madness", and it promises to be... well... quite interesting. :) Stick around, the ride will be bumpy but the scenery should be truly disturbing.

-Mouseglove/Zhalith/Benadanti, now Zaulh'Ghev.
