What happened to Aurealan Realms?

Right around the beginning of March, one of the players on AR decided to be a neanderthalic little fuck and with his foul mouth run one of my staff members off the MUD. However, he was not banned. His player characters were not deleted. His player characters were not even frozen. Two of his characters were muted (unable to use public channels) for three months. Bit whoop, right? He was rude, abusive, and totally inappropriate, but did he apologize? Did he even take any responsibility for it at all? No. Instead, he bitched, he moaned, he whined, and he started a nice little civil war, causing the players to faction and "take sides".

Then, on Monday night, March 25th, 2002, the server that hosts the MUD, that is owned by the Implementor of the MUD and housed several web pages, including one that was a memorial to a player on the MUD, and good friend to many, who died... this inoffensive server was hacked. Now, it could have been someone just happening on the server, but the timing, coming right after the above incidents, made is a bit too suspicious. It also shut down the server for half a week, and causes major stress in the lives of those who had to fix it, and a major inconvenience on those who used the server for e-mail.

Thus, the owner of the server (and the Implementor of the MUD) decided that enough was enough, and made the change you've seen on the front page. If you have comments, you can mail Mouseglove, but don't expect any sympathy if you don't like the changes. The MUD is still the same, just the rules have changed, and they're going to stay changed. This is what comes when guests abuse not only the host, but the hosts hospitality, home and other guests.

Welcome to a whole new game.
